Lola, oh Lola...

šmrk, šmrk... i Lola me ostavila...

The Fish Incident

Before we start, I just thought I'd let you know that this post is going to be a little different. I, who usually writes, will write about my experience with the Fish Incident. On the other hand, my brother will also report what he thought or saw as a spectator or witness. Now let's get started!

I will start.

A lady who was standing in front of my seat where I was sitting in the streetcar had bought fish. Supposedly, it was dead. But when I saw the fish, little did I know I was soon to be covered in fish blood.

The fish wiggled out of the bag unexpectedly. It started flopping around on the floor and, to my unluckiness, on my foot as well. There was a lot of blood, fish blood on my shoe and pants. Come to think of it, I am wearing those exact pants as I type! The floor was wet, too. I was utterly afraid, surprised and disgusted!!

I jumped out of my seat in fear, and the whole streetcar started to stink. Everyone stared at me with weird glares.

I moved forward and away from that lady who was such a bad fish picker that she didn't know whether or not the fish was dead! (Just a joke :) ) I will never forget the fish incident, EVER!!

And now my brother will express his thoughts as a witness/spectator:

If you don't believe in this story, you better! She did look like a weirdo when she jumped out of her seat and shrieked. But I think everybody around me, including me, were shocked when we found out why. (THE FISH!)

I laughed for the next couple of hours (sarcasm) while my sister was freaking out during those hours. Although frankly, I don't blame her, I blame the lady who bought the fish.

When she shrieked, at first I though that it was a baby who wanted a toy. But when I turned my head around, the hours of laughing started.

I can now tease her for the rest of her life! Ha ha ha!!

Razlike

I drugi deo dana smo slobodni. A u Kanadi idemo u skolu ceo dan, svaki dan.

Drugo, Ovde nepoznaju "Twilight!!" (1,2, i 3!)

Totally awesome!!

I just returned from the theater... And here's the scoop on what I saw.

Of course, it was in Serbian! It was called "Totalni Mraz!" but in translation, Totally Claus! It was starring the Totally Spies, and even though I don't watch the show anymore, it was really unlike Totally Spies, kind of different, another version.

Well, they were on a mission, as always, and it involved a DJ whose goal was to stop time, and make sure that Christmas and New Years never arrived. He trapped Santa Claus in a CD, and then he was slowly getting Mandy, Sam, Clover, ans Alex trapped as well. Meanwhile, Clover and Mandy were fighting over the title of New Years Bash Queen. Alex was training for a major sports competition, and Sam was busy studying for some... something!

It was actually very interesting, even though I am not the best person to give you the best details on this... I hope you get the big picture, though. With me were my grandma, my brother, and my 2 cousins. The theater was called the "Bosko Buh" theater.

And to top things off, tomorrow I am also going to another theater!

These serbian presentations, turned out pretty good and I am surprised. Special thanks to my mom and aunt, who bought all the tickets.

So, coming to an end, I have 2 more words: Totally Awesome!!

Kratak "post"... Srecan Rodjendan!!

Only 10 days 'till Christmas, my true love sent to me...

It's true and the time has finally come.

Although from where I am, it doesn't exactly look like it. No, there is no snow here in Serbia, it's not even as cold, but it's still winter all the same... Canada and Serbia.

I am so excited, thrilled, inpatient, whatever you want to call it, I am just waiting, counting down the days until Christmas. Actually, my invented week of fun is coming up soon!! Here is what it is.

Monday, the 22nd is Hanukkah (Although I don't celebrate it, it is still considered fun and a celebration). Tuesday, the 23rd is my teacher's birthday. Wednesday, the 24th is Christmas eve and my cousin's birthday, who is turning 7. Thursday, the 25th is a day of joy; Christmas!! Friday, the 26th is Boxing Day. And Saturday, the 27th is one of my relatives birthday, and the last full moon of 2008 as well!

I know I am missing a day, Sunday... But I don't really know how it could be a celebration, so I just left it out. But as a matter of fact, Sunday is a day to relax and enjoy life... After a busy week, Sunday, the 28th deserves that title!

Well, I am hoping for good presents this year from Santa Claus... (Wink, Wink.) I hope everybody out there has a wonderful holiday, as I am pretty sure I will have.

Merry Christmas, and Happy New Years!!

P.S. According to the famous song "On the twelve days of Christmas" You are to be receiving 10 lords-a-leaping! And tomorrow 11 pipers piping! And finally, 12...

Videcu vas sve u Beogradu... Nemogu da cekam!!

Winter Wonderland

Snow falling from the air,
Children glaring with blank stares.

Days so short, nights so long,
Make days longer, is that so wrong?

There is new white land trespassing the old ground,
Crunchy footsteps rustling new snow so many congenial and diverse sounds.

See that sparkle on the falling snow,
A lovely coat for trees lined row by row.

Snowball fights,
To prove our rights.

Fun never ending,
Whilst new crystals are descending.

Unfinished snowballs of white,
made into snowmen, what a majestic sight!

Your mother's scolds,
to keep out the cold.

Although the days won't last,
we will have memories from the past,

Winter is ending, the moon is out,
the children outside are starting to pout!

But, snow is still falling from the air,
and children are glaring with blank stares.

A Poem by: Una and Maja

We wrote this poem, expressing our thoughts on winter.
We hope you have a clear visulization of what we mean. We hope as well that you have a new outlook on this season of white!!!!!!

Zima

Rememberance Day

Flanders Fields

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses row on row

That mark our place and in the sky,

The larks still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below

We are the dead short days ago

We lived felt dawn saw sunset glow

Loved and were loved

And now we lie in Flanders Fields

Take up our quarrel with the foe

To you from failimg hands we throw

The torch be yours to hold it high

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep though poppies grow in Flanders Fields

-John McCrae

On the 11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, a peace agreement was signed to end World War I. This morning was a time to wear our poppies on our shirts close to our hearts, and we had an assembly. We sang O Canada, stood for our moment of silence like every day, and it was a time of peace and remembering in honour the soldiers who died and risked themselves for us, todays citizens of Canada. We sang songs that may not be familiar t you, but they were O Canada, Peace, The Strangest Dream, Where have all the flowers gone, Let Peace Begin With Me, Rememberance Day and the Junior Choir, including me sang Just One Candle. We had students reciting Flanders Fields in bothe English and French, we had students playing Amazing Grace, and a guest trumpet player playing a song that I forgot the name to. It was a ver nice ceremony, and we all looked forward to the decorated gym, and wonderful time to remember. I am thankful myself, for the soldiers we have. And everything they have given us. We now have freedom, peace and a wonderful country, family and friends to be with. I am grateful that all these soldiers that have died have died for their country, and knowing each and every one of them have made a difference. I am the MOST thankful fo being in a country as fair, devoted, peaceful, beautiful and kind. Thank you to everyone who had taken a moment to think about this 11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month to be happy for!

Mi smo dobili pu,pu,pu,pu,PUNO bonbone i cokolade.

Halloween fun

Halloween is coming around the corner....only six days!

Today, my brother, my dad and my two cool friends, Peter and Una and I, went to a Halloween safety village. There were lots of small houses and each of them were made by sponsors. One of the sponsors, were my dad's company which made me feel really cool for some reason!

We got to trick or treat early at each of the "houses", we even got a peek inside some of them. We got all kinds of delectable candy such as gum, Star burst, Rockets and so on. I hope I don't get a cavity!

Also, our ticket to entering were non-perishable food items. This is for a good cause. So, the non-perishable food items were a good way for us to have fun and for some kids around the world to be happy.

We were also encouraged to wear our Halloween costumes which made it even more of an enjoyment. There were lots of diverse costumes. My friends and I had special costumes each their own way. I was a boy with too much facial hair.

I wore droopy clothes and I succeeded to look like a teen boy.

Una, wore a very odd costume. She was Harry Potter. She had cool makeup, interesting clothes, had dorky glasses and a black used to be snow White's wig that she transformed, with the help of her scissors, a Harry Potter type of wig. I actually fell for it!

My brother, was a clown. His personality came naturally....(i mean it in a good way!) He wore a long, polka-dotted dress with a bright red wig and a sponge red nose. He was very funny and jokes seemed to explode out of him!

Peter, was the very muscular, one of a kind, Iron Man. At first I could not realize who that was, since I am not a fan of Star wars, but he explained it to me, and it sounds cool I guess, for a boy I mean. The village was very realistic with street lights and stores like Tim Horton's, McDonald's, and Home Depot.

It was a very fun experience and I was glad I could go with my friends and my dad this year. I hope I get the chance to go again next year. It was really something to look forward to.

P.S. Did I mention there was a really neat Haunted House? Two in fact. We got to touch a witch brain, eyes, nails and witnessed their skulls. EW. It was cool though, since the nails were shells, the eyes were grapes, and the brain was spaghetti. Not too creepy but very gross. It still shivers me......I didn't expect it that way! There were people everywhere. They popped out to scare us. In all, I enjoyed it a LOT.

Cross-country rezultate

Neznaju ideju pravog sporta!

Coming home from Kearney

I am back from Kearney!!!

Here is the info on my adventure! We traveled with a coach bus and my partner was Ivana. We played cards and watched a movie. The Pacifier. Those 3.5 hours went by pretty fast, so next thing you know, were at the edge of Algonquin park and almost at Kearney.

As we arrived, we unpacked our luggage and we found out where is who staying. The french immersion was staying in the lodge and the English kids were staying in the bunkhouse and the homestead. The difference is that in the bunkhouse there was 1 big room and everybody stays in that room on the bunk beds. In the homestead, there is no difference, it is just that in 1 the girls stay and in the other the boys stay. Then in the lodge, where I am staying, there are 4 smaller rooms. 2 for the girls and 2 for the boys. I was bunking in the same room as Michelle, Joelle, Emily, Nikole, Esther, Corinna, and Ivana. It was so much fun.

First we learned about where is what room, then we looked at the camp's map and learned about the legend, about orienting the map and about the scale. Then we were put into groups of 3 and we had to find signs with something like a stapler. Except that every stapler has a different pattern. We had a certain amount of time to try to find 15 signs and each punch was worth a specific amount of points. The reason it was part of the unit of studying the map was because all the answers were on the map. We had to use the map to find them. My group found all 15.

After that we had dinner, since we arrived at 12 pm. The food there was delicious, and it was all made from scratch. We enjoyed it very much. After that, we had free time and we practised a fire drill for emergencies. It may seem weird that it was supper so quickly, but we learned lots of stuff and talked a lot about the environment. It was fun at free time, and we all talked and played in the lodge, near our rooms.

After that, we learned a lot about owls and Algonquin Park. Then we went Owl Prowling. (A fancy word for Owl calling.) We learned how to call owls and we called them. We had a response and we even saw 1 in the trees! That was so much fun. Especially since it was raining the whole day.

Then we had a snack and juice, we played games and went to bed. My room was so excited, we unfortunately fell asleep at 2 am and had to wake up at 6 am. But we were not tired during the day.

The next day, we had a wonderful breakfast and then we learned about the life cycle. We learned that at the top, there was the sun, then the air, then water, and then soil. To remember, we say SAWS. Then we played a game, where some people were carnivores, some omnivores and some big or small herbivores. We could touch some people and that counts like we ate them. So they had to give us a token of theirs. 1 token was equal to 1 life, and we had to find water sources to survive. (Another kind of stapler.) By doing this, we learned about how animals have to live, and the hard parts of life for them.

After, we had a lunch outside and free time outside, then we went for a 4 hour hike, and were divided into groups. We had an adventure and learned about trees, about fungus, and about the history of the places we were in. We climbed and slipped and talked and jumped, and we saw snakes and frogs, too. After that, we had free time again, and we all played and had fun.

Then we went howling for wolves and we learned a lot about how wolves eat, how they survive and so on. We then went howling for wolves, but we didn't have a response because wolves have good ears, and we were all talking.

So then, we went for a walk in the pitch black night, and we had an activity, so that we had to hold on to a rope and find our way to the next teacher. This was tricky since we could not see the rope and it went for a wild turn and we all lost the rope for a minute or two.

Then we had a snack and juice and we went to bed.

That night it was better and we fell asleep at 12:30 am. Then when we woke up, we packed our luggage and we played games that the Inuit people used to play. (Inuit people are Eskimos, but we don't call them that since Eskimos mean eaters of raw meat!) That was fun, then we lied down one by one on the blanket, and the others pulled the blanket and then you went flying in the airs! It was great.

After that, we had free time, then we packed up and had to leave. On our way home, the DVD didn't work, so me, Ivana, Jeremy and Ryan played games like truth or dare, and would you rather.

We arrived 30 minutes early so we had to phone our parents to pick us up.

Also, at Kearney, we had duty groups. 1,2,3, and 4. I was in duty group 3 and they told us which group was doing set up for meals and clean up, and that is how we were still responsible and still had chores!

It was a nice trip and I'd go again any time.

Moram sve vise i vise da trcim

Sve vam objasnjava naslov!

Mi smo danas isli metroom do centra. Pa smo danas ujuto setali i trcili za program "Run for the Cure."

I sutra cemo trcati u pravoj trci 2 kilometra.

Only 10 more days!

Guess what? In about 10 more days, I will be going to Camp Kearney.

It is a camp just at the edge of Algonquin Park, and every year the grade 6's go on a 3-day excursion to the camp. My class is going from October 8-10. It is beautiful, and there is food and everything. All the grade 6's before me said it was great, so I really look forward to it. We have a list of what to bring for those 2 nights and 3 days, since we'll be leaving pretty early in the morning and we'll be back at around 4 or 5. There will be lots of activities and since the only adults will be the 3 teachers and the camp staff. They hope we'll become more mature and independent after this experience.

One of the disadvantages are that I'd really like to still be with my family, and together. But then again, this is a part of growing up and it will be my first trip away from all my relatives and family for 3 days. Although I know that I'll be enjoying myself and time will pass by fast.

So those are the news about the field trip, and I hope it'll be something amazing, even though I'll be leaving everyone here. So yes, that is it and all for now. Thank you.

Go DWTS!

Hvala...

Basketball, basketball and more basketball!

At last!

I am so thrilled that basketball has started once again, I was very inpatient to finally see all my friends and to move around on the court like I did before the summer. So I am in a group boys and girls from 1997-1999. Today we practiced altogether, at the same time, but that won't last. Would you like to know why? Well since there is a little less than 15 girls in that year, and a lot of boys, trust me.... The coaches and the parents decided that it was hard to practise and we could not really learn properly like that. (I don't really know why, but I totally agree with the solution.) So, the solution was that the boys get that period of time, but then the girls get the period after that. This worked out since, in the next period there was not too much people, it was easier to learn, there was a lot of space, and it was not as loud. So that is mainly what happened yesterday.

Also, 3 of my friends came yesterday, and 1 baby, so the 3 older ones, including me and my brother went to the park. It was so much fun! That occupied us, since we didn't really know what to do before that. We stayed for about an hour and a half. But that's enough for that.

The reason I wrote Basketball, basketball and more basketball as the title is because I became exhausted from yesterdays training, and today my dad is going to play some basketball with the adults. The club that we go to is called Troyka. And Troyka reserved 2 rooms. The adults can't fill up both rooms, so the 2nd room is for the kids. I see my friends there, so it's also a lot of fun.

And after that, I am going to my friend's birthday party, it's at bulldog fitness, which is a place where there are games, but it's very healthy because to play those games, you must exercise or be in motion, Ex: roll the pedals, move your arms and so on. Today will be a real workout!

Well, that is it for now. I'll write back something else some other day.
Thanks,

P.S. My dad is a coach at Troyka!

The present and the past

Hi everyone!!!

Just thought I’d let you know about yesterday and today.

Let’s start with yesterday. Yesterday, I had a fever, and it really was not a good day, I had to shower with hot water, (but since I had a fever of about 40 degrees, it was just about FREEZING!!!) I slept, watched TV, and did nothing so spectacular. I also had a major headache. But I took Advil twice, (eeeew!!) And it was kind of better.

But there is always a good part about the day as well. My mom came back from San Francisco, and bought my brother and me a hat that said San Francisco and 2 really cool fridge magnets. I also wrote an essay a couple of days ago. The topic was: What problem are we most concerned about? There is a club in my school called Free the Children. We adopted a village in Kenya, and every year we raise money for a different way to help and support them. I believe that free the Children is a charity, but I am not so sure. Anyways, I’ll write more about Free the Children later. So we wrote an essay if we wanted to attend a conference October the 17th. I really wanted to go because there was going to be the actress who played Anne in the famous movie: Anne of Green Gables. There was also going to be the Founder of Free the Children, and a couple of Former Prime Ministers of Canada. So I was very lucky, because we only had 13 seats, and out of roughly 30 people, only 13 could go. I made it!!!! I really tried hard, and I’m so happy. But, that is way too much writing for history.

Here are the news from today. (The present.) I woke up feeling much better than I did yesterday, and I watched TV. For quite some time. Then I got dressed for the day. After that, I ate breakfast and watched even more TV. Then I decided that that was enough TV for the day, so I went to talk on the phone, and now I’m writing the blog.
So basically, I was surrounded by electronics this morning. But what can a girl do? It’s Saturday morning!

Well, that is it for now, so I’ll see you later. Bye!!!

Today's 411

Hello!

First of all, thank you all so much for all the comments.

And now, here are today's news. At school, we finally finished the Casi tests. I had office duty at lunch, but there wasn't as much excitement and tasks as I hoped. We also learned that we'll be doing science with the other grade 6's and it'll be every Tuesday and Thursday. Since the 2 classes are grades 5/6 split, we are all divided into 2 groups. Grade 5's and grade 6's. When the grade 5's are doing experiments, we'll be on the smart boards. When we're doing experiments. the grade 5's will be on the smart boards. We're also still working on our Wall of Fame projects for Meet the Teacher night.

In the morning, our teacher read us the book: "Sophie part en voyage." (It's in french.) We also had a great time at recess. Then we worked on our K W L charts for science. After that, it was lunch. Well, we pretty much did Casi all afternoon. So that's pretty much it.

I did walk home with Ivana. And it was so much fun!!! When we came home, we did our homework had some fun and watched T.V. Now I'm going off to read and sleep. I woke up at 6:10 this morning, and I am pretty tired.

Well, that's today's 411. Have fun!!!
Maja

P.S. K W L is what we know, what we wonder and what we learned.
411 is the buzz, the news or headlines.

The Report from Toronto

Hey, mom!

Check out our new blog! We're writing this to report to you that everything rocks here in Toronto. We are sooooooooooooo impatient for you to come back at last from San Francisco.

At school, everything is fabulous... but the Casi tests. Although, I do enjoy being the oldest in the school after almost 7 years! Our class is absolutely great and hilarious. Today, we changed the seating plan so that the boys stop playing, but then that means that all the boys have to be with a girl.... And I want to be with my friends. Our teacher says that school is a place for learning and we've got plenty of time to be with our friends at recess. I agree for everything but the not being able to chat from time to time with our friends. Anyways, everything else is nice, and Ivan seems to be enjoying the 4th grade. But that's enough news from school already!

Today we went to swimming, and I'm in the sixth lane now. We're also going to Ivana's house tomorrow after school. It's gonna be so much fun! The rest I'll tell you over the phone. Now last but not least... We really really hoped you liked this surprise!

We miss you so much. Bye for now!
Maja

P.S. For the other readers that don't know, our mom is on a business trip in San Francisco, California!!!
