Rememberance Day

Flanders Fields

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses row on row

That mark our place and in the sky,

The larks still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below

We are the dead short days ago

We lived felt dawn saw sunset glow

Loved and were loved

And now we lie in Flanders Fields

Take up our quarrel with the foe

To you from failimg hands we throw

The torch be yours to hold it high

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep though poppies grow in Flanders Fields

-John McCrae

On the 11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, a peace agreement was signed to end World War I. This morning was a time to wear our poppies on our shirts close to our hearts, and we had an assembly. We sang O Canada, stood for our moment of silence like every day, and it was a time of peace and remembering in honour the soldiers who died and risked themselves for us, todays citizens of Canada. We sang songs that may not be familiar t you, but they were O Canada, Peace, The Strangest Dream, Where have all the flowers gone, Let Peace Begin With Me, Rememberance Day and the Junior Choir, including me sang Just One Candle. We had students reciting Flanders Fields in bothe English and French, we had students playing Amazing Grace, and a guest trumpet player playing a song that I forgot the name to. It was a ver nice ceremony, and we all looked forward to the decorated gym, and wonderful time to remember. I am thankful myself, for the soldiers we have. And everything they have given us. We now have freedom, peace and a wonderful country, family and friends to be with. I am grateful that all these soldiers that have died have died for their country, and knowing each and every one of them have made a difference. I am the MOST thankful fo being in a country as fair, devoted, peaceful, beautiful and kind. Thank you to everyone who had taken a moment to think about this 11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month to be happy for!
